Find Cheap Rates Hotel Room

As much as I love hostels and other forms of cheap accommodation, there's something nice about the luxurious quality of a hotel: the clean room, the comfortable bed, the desk, the iron, the strong shower and the bottled soap (errr ... I mean borrowing) They are calm, relaxing and a respite from the world.

But luxury has a price. Hotels are certainly not cheap, and I hate to spend money in a room where I will only be a few hours. After all, it's just a place to sleep (and drink soap). That is why I mainly avoid hotels, I do not think they are a good use of money.

I prefer to stay in a hostel or on Airbnb, which cost less, have more social interaction and do not make you feel like you're retiring from the destination where you're staying. I always feel that hotels are as isolated as a concrete bubble that prevents the place you are visiting.

But there are times when a hotel can not be avoided. Hostels are not everywhere, booking a last minute hotel room is easier than finding an Airbnb host, and sometimes you really need a good bed and shower. Also, I have a ton of points so free that it's worth the isolation.

A few years ago, I traveled a lot to conferences and other events related to work and I stayed in a group of hotels. I decided to see trivago hotel booking sites came back with the cheapest results. I chose five cities to investigate (London, Los Angeles, Paris, New York and Seattle) and I stay close to the date of my research and well in advance, both Monday through Friday and on weekends.

I searched six reservation websites: Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Hotwire, Priceline and TravelPony, in categories of 2, 3 and 4 stars.

The conclusion? Well, there was not really a big conclusion.

The overall figures showed that some sites were stronger in certain regions or for certain kinds of hotels. TravelPony was the winner in the USA. UU And for high-class hotels, Expedia dominated London and Paris, while Priceline was excellent for 2-star hotels and Hotwire for 3-star hotels. The big loser? Booking.com.

That was in 2014, and the websites and booking options have changed a lot since then. The only constant in the trip is that nothing is constant, and a reservation website is as good as your inventory, that, as someone who now owns a hostel that does not feature in all booking engines, I can say that it varies a lot.

Then I decided to do another search. This time I searched Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Agoda and Priceline prices in London, New York, Paris, Bangkok, Buenos Aires and Berlin. On July 3 I looked for space for that week and then a month later during the day of the week and the weekend (prices and availability change on the weekend).

The results?

Well, the opposite of the previous results. In 2014, Booking.com was terrible, TravelPony showed a promise, and Agoda was only good in Asia.

This time, the clear winner was Booking.com, followed by Agoda. Although it did not return the most total places, Booking.com returned the most cheap places, and that's the most important thing. I found the best deals and the largest variety in all the destinations I searched for at Booking.

For example, in my September search in Paris, I listed more than 2,300 results, including 250 2-star listings and 750 star lists (and told me that the place had more than 60% reserve when I searched).

Agoda obtained the best results in Asia (returned 2,900 results in Bangkok compared to 2,500 in Booking), but definitely expanded its listings around the world, more or less was linked to Booking in Paris, Buenos Aires and Sydney in general, although they had fewer budget listings than Reservations.

And all those other important booking sites? Well, Orbitz and Travelocity are part of Expedia and use the same database, and while they rejected a lot of results, they leaned more to the upper end of the price spectrum.

And websites like Priceline and Hotwire have reservation options and first-rate blind offers that can offer you a very cheap hotel (in the category and star area you want). Sometimes prices are up to 40% off. The low? He does not know the name of the hotel where he stays until after having paid.

There are many hotel websites and I have tried many in recent years, as I have started booking hotels more and more, but this test has just proved what I already thought:

For cheap accommodation, Booking.com and Agoda are just the best resources that have the largest selection of results. If you are looking for these two companies, you will always find the best hotel deals in the category of 1, 2 or 3 star only.
